A recently published study by the BIR (Bureau of International Recycling) shows that the metal recycling chain is responsible for an enormous reduction in CO2 emissions every year. For three metals alone (iron scrap, aluminum and copper), the annual CO2 reduction through the use of secondary raw materials is no less than 572 million tons.

In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, metal recycling also brings discarded materials back into the cycle. Copper recycling saves more than 60% energy. With aluminum the saving is even 95%. Then you are talking about secondary raw materials that are higher quality than the original. With a recycling rate of over 90%, the metal recycling chain is rightly referred to as ’the circular economy in practice’.
